MAP union members and their families are encouraged to apply for The Carl Parsell Scholarship Fund before the March 1 deadline.
Applicants must submit their fully completed, signed application by March 1, 2018. To qualify, candidates must be permanent State of Michigan residents and be a member of MAP or immediate relation to a member of MAP. Candidates must have completed a high school education, or its equivalent, on or prior to June 30, 2018 to be eligible.
The mission of The Carl Parsell Scholarship Fund is to assist members and their families who are motivated to improve society by enhancing their future careers through a college education. Carl Parsell Scholarships are awarded to deserving college bound students who desire assistance with their college tuition.
Carl Parsell Scholarships may be used to cover a portion of educational expenses, including tuition, living expenses, and other required fees during the 2018-2019 school year. Scholars may use the award to attend any United States accredited university, college, community college, junior college, two or four year accredited degree-granting institution, or vocational training institution that grants a certification or license. Funds derived from The Carl Parsell Memorial Scholarship Golf Outing determine the number of scholarships to be awarded annually. The maximum award available per student is $2,500.

In 1962, President John F. Kennedy proclaimed May 15th as National Peace Officers Memorial Day and the calendar week in which May 15th falls, National Police Week. National Police Week pays special recognition to those law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others. Listed below are the events planned at the national level in Washington D.C. as well as Michigan's Peace Officers' Candlelight Memorial Service. Many events will take place before the official dates of Police Week in 2018.

2018 MAP Executive Board President Rich Heins and his K9 Chase were recently recognized during a retirement ceremony for Chase, a 10-year veteran of the Sterling Heights Police Department.
Heins, a Sterling Heights Police K9 Officer, and Chase received several gifts and awards during the ceremony. Heins' committment to the K9 program was also recognized by police officials with the K-9 training field at Baumgartner Park being renamed Heins Field.

In 2017, four individuals were awarded Michigan Association of Police - Carl Parsell Memorial Scholarships. Qualifications include:
- Permanent resident of the State of Michigan
- Member of, or immediate family member of: Michigan Association of Police, Michigan Association of Public Employees or Michigan Association of Fire Fighters
- Applicants must complete a high school education or equivalent by June 30, 2018

The City of West St. Paul is currently recruiting for Police Officers. West St. Paul is a diverse, first ring suburb located adjacent to Minnesota’s Capital City of Saint Paul.
